Obituary of John Feeney McInnis

McINNIS; John Feeney “Jack”, Peacefully, on Thursday, June 9, 2005, a long time resident of Mt. Carmel, Ont., more recently of Chateau Gardens, Parkhill, passed away at Strathroy Middlesex Hospital, at the age of 89. Survived by his wife, of over 50 years, Edythe Callahan-McInnis. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Ann and her husband Clive Tonge, Strathroy and son Paul and his wife Shelley McInnis of Mt. Carmel, brother Lawrence J. McInnis, sisters-in-law Margaret Callahan, Sarnia and Beatrice Callahan, Teeswater. He will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by parents Joseph & Margaret (Feeney) McInnis; brothers, Joseph A.(1967) and John Paul (1999); sisters, Elizabeth (1923) and Jeanne (1978). Jack was born August 19, 1915 in London, Ont. where he grew up. After graduating De La Salle High School, he worked for The London Advertiser, Coca Cola Ltd. and Quinn Lumber. He & Edythe moved to Grand Bend, they owned & operated the Imperial Hotel for many years, where he was known by many as "Mr. Jack". During his life, construction was important to him, he moved, redesigned & built many homes. For a few years, he worked for the County of Bosanquet as a building inspector. Baseball was his lifetime passion. As a boy, he rode the baggage car with his father to see his beloved Detroit Tigers play ball. As a young man he hitchhiked from Lambeth to get to the World Series, in Detroit. If there was a game on the radio it was playing in the car. In later years he enjoyed horse racing. For years he & Edythe would pack up the car & go to Louisville on the first weekend of May to attend The Kentucky Derby. Many will remember him for his twinkling eyes & broad smile when entertaining friends and family or driving his '68 Thunderbird; his endearing laugh & a heart of gold. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Whynot, Jamie and the nursing staff in ICU Strathroy Hospital, and everyone at Chateau Gardens for their care and compassion. Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, with visitation Monday, June 13, 2005 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel at 2 p.m. The Rev. Father Michael Ryan Celebrant. Interment Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
