Obituary of Bohdan Michael Hlady
HLADY: Bohdan Michael Hlady, of London, formerly of Grand Bend and Windsor, slipped gently away from us just a few days before his 86th birthday. Ben joins his wife Patricia and numerous brothers, sisters, inlaws and nephews who have prepared a welcome reception for him. He will be dearly missed by Vickie (Vince), Phil (Lori), Tanya (David), and Gerald (Suzanne). Cherished Grandpa of Joel, Christine (Luke), Sarah, Anastasia, Paulina, Kaiya, Boden and Tegan. Treasured GGPa of Ivy. Remembered by his sisters Bernice and Mary, in-laws, and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Bohdan’s fortitude and generous, cheerful attitude were known to all. He would play sly tricks on his caregivers and enjoyed a good joke. His greatest joy was spending time playing with his children and grandchildren or making improvements in his garden with found treasures. Ben was the original green machine; everything could be used, repaired or up-cycled into a better, more useful creation. He was thrifty and content with what he had, but generous to all others. He even planned treats for the neighbourhood pets who eagerly anticipated his walkabouts.
Bohdan fought a courageous battle with cancer during his last two years. He defied the odds and expectations for survival on several occasions. He had great respect for the team at London Regional Cancer Centre, and deep gratitude for the doctors, nurses and caregivers at St. Joseph’s Hospice of London who helped him stay calm and comfortable throughout his journey. Thank you to George, his amazing PT who believed that Ben could walk and climb stairs and carved out a plan. A special thank you to JP for his weekly visits and care - Annyeonghi gaseyo.
At Ben’s request, cremation has taken place. A private Rite of Christian Burial Service will be held at the Pinery Cemetery, Grand Bend for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (payable directly) to a local hospice or cancer care center would be appreciated by the family. “DYB DYB DYB!”
Arrangements entrusted to the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood.
