Obituary of Emma Couckuyt
COUCKUYT, Mary Emma (Murphy): Passed away peacefully, in her 92nd year, on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall, On., formerly of Grand Bend. Beloved mother of son George (Brenda) Couckuyt of Grand Bend and daughter Donna McQueen of Surrey, B.C. Cherished grandma of Hannah McQueen of Surrey, B.C. Special Aunt of Chris Liddiard of Bayfield and Kim Bishop of St. Thomas. Also survived by her sister Anna Touesnard of Cape Breton. Predeceased by her husband Cyril (1994), sisters Muriel Burley of Goderich, Frances Bishop of Grand Bend, Theresa Murphy, Margaret Hilton and Catherine MacInnis, along with her brothers Peter, Ernest, William, Joseph and John Murphy all of Nova Scotia. Emma travelled to Ontario when she was just 17 to live with her sister Muriel in the Thedford marsh area, where she met and married Cy. A proud Mother and creative homemaker she was happiest in her kitchen cooking and baking for family and friends. Emma has been a member of the Catholic Women’s League at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Grand Bend for over 50 years. Emma’s family would like to extend a special Thank-you to the Nurses and Staff at Queensway for their compassionate care. At Emma’s request, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at Immacualte Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Grand Bend on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Arrangements entrusted to the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood. If desired, memorial donations (payable by cheque) to VON or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
