Obituary of MARIS PETERIS APSE
APSE: Peacefully, but unexpectedly, at London Health Sciences Centre – University Hospital, on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, Maris Peteris Apse of Grand Bend formerly of Oakville, age 73. Beloved husband of Penelope “Penny” G. (Stephenson) Apse. Loved father and father-in-law of Amber Apse and husband Darrel Houlahan of Ottawa and Emily Apse of Toronto. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Rita Apse, Juris and Astrida Apse, Daina and Janis Daugavietis, Pat Fraser and Carol Campbell-Malcolm. Remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Loved and missed by his feline companions Marley, Freddy and Rory. Predeceased by his parents Arvids and Gaida (Avotins) Apse, brother Vilnis and Edite Apse and sister Liga Apse, brothers-in-law Bruce Fraser, Keith Campbell and Dennis Malcolm, father and mother-in-law Jack and Marg Stephenson. Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood with visitation on Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 2 to 5 p.m. Where the Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. At Maris’ request, cremation will follow. Maris was a teacher for 30 years with the Toronto District School Board, and was active within the athletic department. He was an accomplished rugby player, having played for the Eastern Canada Team as well as the Toronto Wanderers and Nomads. Maris had a passion for nature and bird watching; he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love by participating in many organizations. He was president and an instructor with O.R.C.A. (Ontario Recreational Canoe Association), a member of the board of directors of the O.F.O. (Ontario Field Ornithologists) and an active member of L.W.I. (Lambton Wildlife Inc.). If desired, memorial donations, payable by cheque to Lambton Wildlife Inc., Ontario Field Ornithologists or Bird Studies Canada would be appreciated by the family.
