Obituary of Earl Frederick Vandahl
VANDAHL: Peacefully, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Sunday, July 4, 2010, Earl Frederick Vandahl of RR 2, Grand Bend, formerly of Montreal and Halifax, age 89. Beloved husband of Dorothy Irene (Hayter) Vandahl. Loved father and father-in-law of Dr. Douglas R. Vandahl and Sarah Helgerson of Kanata, Diane R. Vandahl of Montreal, Lt. Col. Earl S. Vandahl Jr. and Catherine Vandahl of Trenton. Loving grandfather of Robert and William Vandahl, Kimberley and Michelle Vandahl. Dear brother-in-law of Bob and Gloria Hayter of Dashwood, Frieda Hayter of B.W.R.H. and June Hayter of Goderich. Remembered by his many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his sister Alida Clarke, brother Albert Vandahl his wife Helen, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Theada and Joe Bruce, Reta and John Snyder, Grace and Jim Beavis, Harry Hayter and Jim Hayter Sr. Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, with visitation Wednesday evening 6 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood, Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. The Rev. John E. Trembulak III officiating. Interment Zion Lutheran Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Earl was a veteran of WWII. In 1941, he left the farm in Vantage, Sask. and enlisted in Regina. Initially trained as an aero engine mechanic, Earl went on to become a pilot officer. When the war ended, he re-enlisted in the newly formed Fleet Air Arm which became the Canadian Naval Air Group. Earl left the Navy in 1968 to join Rolls Royce Canada (Montreal) where he headed the aero engine maintenance customer training department, a job which took him to many exotic locations. After retirement from Rolls Royce, Earl pursued his passion for fine wood working, completing many projects which will be admired and enjoyed by his family for many years to come.
